Día 1. Encuentro Mundial de Escuelas Taurinas. FOTOS.

The festival started late, around 12:30, as David Adame had exams at 11:00am at the school. The judge was Don Jose Sanchez, and there was about 100 people attending.
Tomorrow is Day 2 of the Encuentro Mundial with 6 more students.

David Adame of the Escuela de Artes y El Toreo in Aguascalientes, and Andres Roca Rey of the Escuela Taurina de Lima in Peru both performed very well, with Adame, to me, having the better performance. Adame started out with a larga cambiada, then added another one as the animal circled around. The animal was pic'd twice from two different horses. he then started a quite and was tossed after the second pass, he wasn't injured and continued the remate for the quite. For the second act he asked Andres Roca Rey to place sticks with him, which he accepted and both placed sticks in good locations. David dedicated the becerro to his brother Matador Joselito Adame who was in the stands watching. Very good faena from Adame, the left side was the side that he worked on the most, and it was good, he did try some on the right but not much happened, a few but thats about it, he kept going back to the left and nailed some great passes. The band started playing "Pelea de Gallos", and the public sang it. After a few more passes, and some pases de alto, he finished with a symbolic kill using a banderilla. He was awarded the symbolic ears and tail, and took a vuelta aroun the ring.

Andres Roca Rey, pretty much had the same type of faena as David did, except for his was mostly on both sides, a good little animal that gave what requested. He invited Adame to place sticks, and he accepted, and both placed them real good, then Andres placed another pair. Faenas was good, as I already mentioned, He also killed symbolically and earned the symbolic ears and tail.

Paco Velasquez of the Escuela de Tauromaquia de Sevilla, representing Portugal, performed in 4th place and had a good series of veronicas, pic was good, tried a quite but animal wouldnt comply. Faenas was here and there but good and mostly on the left side, and a few on the right when he could, he got tossed bad but wasnt hurt. He pinched twice then placed a half sword to finish it off. Palmas.

Jorge Cordones, of the Escuela Taurina de Albacete, performed in 3rd place and really couldnt get anything going, the animal was just all over the place, but he kept trying to make passes, and got tossed real high and landed face first on the hot sand, ouch. he got up went and cleaned off his face then came back to try it again, and to no avail. Three pichazos then a half sword, done. Palmas.

Rafael Reynoso of the Academia Taurina Municipal de Aguascalientes, performed in 2nd place and even though the animal was distracted, and he kept chasing it, he still got off some good passes on both sides. He did get tossed a bit, but wasnt hurt. He placed the first sword from top but exited out the side, which isnt good, they took it out then he placed another sowrd 3/4 and was granted an ear.

Juan Pablo Llaguno, from the Academia Taurina de Queretaro, performed 1st, and he performed like I had seen him before, very good. There wasnt much with the capote, the animal looked like it had been injured, its hind legs looked to be dragging, but he could still move. Most of the faena was on the left, and was it good. He did try the right side but not much happened there. The sword work was just bad, he kept hitting bone, got his first aviso, and kept trying, second aviso, then he switched to the descabello, too late, third aviso. He went to the burladero and wept in his fathers arms, his father telling him not to worry, the faena was great, just not the sword work. He did recieve an ovation.
